Unlike branding rune swords , forging a meteorite sword does not require a steel sword to start with; only three pieces of ore are needed. A newly forged meteorite sword will fit in geralt's primary steel sword slot or the heavy weapon slot, see inventory. That said the steel sword in the wolf set is really cool with a straight guard and a ring shaped secondary guard on higher up on the blade. It gives it a touch of elegance and style.
